The Main South Community Development Corporation (MSCDC) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, made of people who live or work in the Main South area. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for ourselves and our families by working together on projects that will maintain or create safe affordable housing, support economic opportunities for business and residents of Main South, enhance the physical image of the area, and instill a sense of neighborhood pride and commitment.
Located between the borders defined by Main Street, the railroad tracks, Hammond Street and Gardner Street, the Main South CDC’s latest project, the Kilby-Gardner-Hammond Neighborhood Revitalization Project, has been touted as the most innovative and aggressive community development project known to Main South. Led by neighborhood residents, the Main South CDC, Clark University and the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, the project calls for the revitalization of a 30-acre parcel of land which is dominated by vacant lots, abandoned buildings and deteriorating triple-deckers. The KGH Project has already resulted in the creation of 36 new units of affordable housing out of the projected 80 units and the completion of the new Boys and Girls clubhouse located on Tainter Street In addition, Clark University plans to extend its athletic fields to the industrial area parallel to Tainter Street and the railroad tracks.
To meet the needs of the Main South community, the housing opportunities created by the Main South CDC will be made affordable to low-moderate income first-time homebuyers. The CDC will also continue to address public safety issues in the neighborhood, will promote affordable housing development and general improvements in the quality of life.
The Main South CDC is your organization. Please become a voting member and show your support for our work. Also, those interested in becoming Board Members to oversee this exciting period in the agency’s history are welcome to apply.
